VICTIMS OF WAR: Book one in the series ‘The Deserter’s Daughter.’
About
Victims of War is the first in a series of three novels originally published as one volume: an e-book entitled ‘The Deserter’s Daughter’. This title has now been unpublished, but still stands as the logo for the series.
Vietnam, 1965... Dale Captree is on his first patrol when his unit is involved in an atrocity in a local village. He saves the life of a young girl (whom he will later adopt as his daughter), but is betrayed and left for dead by his fellow soldiers. After a thrilling escape from the war zone he and the girl go to ground in Hong Kong, where they live covertly with fake documentation and new names.
After many years they relax their vigilance... and that’s when things start to go wrong, with scandals and medical issues due to exposure to the deadly defoliant Agent Orange. Ill-advised publicity following the release of a novel threatens to expose their true identities.
The arrival in the colony of ambitious young journalist Tom Bellamy in search of fun, fame and fortune is a further link in a chain of events that could spell disaster. The Deserter finally comes to realize that he and his daughter are in a desperate struggle for survival.
